{"id":11774,"date":"2026-04-16T10:23:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T03:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roth.co.th\/swimming-pools-lowering-and-raising-water-ph\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T10:23:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T03:23:37","slug":"swimming-pools-lowering-and-raising-water-ph","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roth.co.th\/th\/swimming-pools-lowering-and-raising-water-ph\/","title":{"rendered":"Swimming pools &#8211; lowering and raising water pH"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 id=\"page-title\" class=\"title\"><strong>\u0e01\u0e32\u0e23\u0e1a\u0e33\u0e23\u0e38\u0e07\u0e23\u0e31\u0e01\u0e29\u0e32\u0e2a\u0e23\u0e30\u0e27\u0e48\u0e32\u0e22\u0e19\u0e49\u0e33<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"title\">High pH in swimming pools water may cause the following problems:<\/p>\n<article class=\"node-69 node node-page view-mode-full clearfix\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<ul>\n<li>calcium buildup on pool surfaces, waterline and accessories<\/li>\n<li>dull or cloudy pool water<\/li>\n<li>clogging of filter medium or elements<\/li>\n<li>drop in disinfection potential of chlorine resulting in algae growth<\/li>\n<li>burning eyes and nose<\/li>\n<li>dry, itchy skin and scalp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> Lowering High pH in Swimming Pool Water<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adding an acid to the pool water reduces the pH. The most common chemicals used to reduce high swimming pool water pH are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>muriatic acid \u2014 typically 30% &#8211; 35% liquid hydrochloric acid<\/li>\n<li>sodium bisulfate \u2014 granule or powder pH reducer, dry acid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other acids that have been used in pool water are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sulfuric acid \u2014 raises TDS levels and adds sulfates to the pool water<\/li>\n<li>nitric acid \u2014 highly corrosive but is known to work well<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the Total alkalinity of the swimming pool water is within the recommended parameters of 80 &#8211; 120 ppm, pH reducer should be added according to the instructions on the container. The acid should usually be added to water and mixed before dosing the pool. The pump should be running when the acid is slowly distributed around the pool.<\/p>\n<p>Low pH in swimming pool water may cause one or more of these problems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eroding of the pool plaster or grouting<\/li>\n<li>corroding of the metal pool accessories (steps, heater, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>staining resulting from metal corrosion<\/li>\n<li>rapid dissipation of chlorine requiring increased dosage<\/li>\n<li>burning eyes and nose<\/li>\n<li>dry, itchy skin and scalp<\/li>\n<li>perishing of swimwear, pool toys and accessories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> Raising Low pH in Swimming Pools Water<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adding a base or alkali raises the pH of the pool water. If the total alkalinity is normal, pH increaser should be added according to the instructions on the container. The active ingredient is usually sodium carbonate. Often low pH is a result of acid rain and occurs after periods of heavy precipitation. The normal tendency of pool water pH is to rise through exposure to wind, sunshine and bathers.
